ABSTRACT: Developing vocational training programs for careers in environmental science is essential for equipping students with the skills needed to address environmental challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of current vocational programs in environmental science, identify key competencies required for careers in this field, and assess student readiness for employment in environmental roles. A survey design was utilized to gather comprehensive data from students enrolled in environmental science vocational programs. The sample size included 250 students from various technical institutions specializing in environmental science and management. Purposive sampling was used to select participants with a foundational knowledge of environmental issues. The case study was conducted at the University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. Findings revealed that vocational education significantly improved students' understanding of environmental principles, enhanced their technical skills in environmental management, and prepared them effectively for careers in environmental science. Students expressed high levels of satisfaction with the training, highlighting the practical applications and real-world relevance of the skills acquired. It was recommended that vocational training institutions expand their environmental science curricula and collaborate with industry partners to ensure training programs align with current environmental standards and practices.
